“The High Calling of Motherhood” by Chimene Dupler… and a giveaway…

Hello my friends. Today I’m posting a book review for a wonderful book on motherhood. Enjoy!

Does motherhood matter?

Have we lost our sense of identity, especially through social media, which can pour both accolades and acid into our hearts and minds? Does our role as a mother have any lasting purpose? What about the hard stuff? Do we self-medicate more than we self-motivate to fight for our families? If we don’t have a sense of purpose, how will our children? Chimene Shipley Dupler believes you are created for more. You are created in the image of God. You have value, significance, and purpose. You are chosen!

In The High Calling of Motherhood, Chimene will challenge and inspire you. Motherhood can change the trajectory of a generation as we discover the authority that God has given mothers. Chimene desires to see mothers experience the joy that comes in the value and worth that God places on motherhood.

Motherhood is a calling a high calling from God. Chimene will equip you and give you tools for success. You are a difference maker. You are raising world changers. You are a mom!

Being a mother of three children, I remember many of the emotions and insecurities a mom feels when she holds that baby for the first time and wonders if she will make a good mother. According to Ms. Dupler’s book, today’s culture has no respect for motherhood and no value for the marriage institution. A mom in today’s world might feel defeated and incompetent. These emotions are addressed expertly in this book.

What I liked: There are words of advice and encouragement in the book and Bible verses to back them up. It encourages moms, and it also illuminates ways to love the calling of motherhood and how to thrive as a mother. It reinforces the Bible’s teaching that motherhood is a gift from God and that the ultimate approval for that task should come from God, not peers.  Ms. Dupler offers helpful tips for raising our children: how to point them toward God’s love and to pass that love on to others.

What I didn’t like: I found several concepts in the book to be repetitive—they were worded differently, but the meanings were the same. However, it might have been the intention of the author to purposely repeat these concepts for emphasis.  The first pages of the book state the true facts about the value of motherhood in today’s world and tend to be depressing. Although there is a lack of respect for motherhood and no value of marriage in our culture today, the pages addressing this fact were hard to read. However, once again, these facts needed to be stated to show accurately how most mom’s feel today. Calling attention to these facts allows Ms. Dupler the opportunity to offer hope and concrete ways to succeed as a Biblical parent.

Ms. Dupler is an excellent author. Her insight is refreshing, informative, and practical. Even though the first pages of the book are disheartening, there are many facts and feelings on those pages that apply to most mothers in today’s world. The rest of the book encourages moms to embrace motherhood and how to use it as a tool to “shape the future” of not only their children, but the world.

I have to say that I’m not a big non-fiction book reader. I enjoy reading fiction books to relax and sometimes escape the responsibilities of my life, so when the publisher asked me to review this non-fiction book, it was not easy for me to say yes. However, once I dug into the “meat” between the pages of this book, I became interested and thoroughly enjoyed reading it all the way to the end. I respect the advice in this book, enough to buy copies for my daughters–one who is already a mom, and the other one who hopes to be.

starsOver all, I give this book five stars, and I highly recommend it to any mom or mom-to-be.
